Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 and the Sony Xperia Z – the two waterproof Android smartphones are hot off the press these days and along with that, they are also in high demand in the Android market. Well, the question still arises, which one to buy? Personally speaking, both the smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 and the Sony Xperia Z are undoubtedly huge masterpiece’s but a few minor differences do become a huge point to ado on when it comes to buying one of these two devices. If you are also one of those who are confused that which one to buy then no worrying because we have prepared a brief comparison between two of these devices – the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 and the Sony Xperia Z.
Design, Outlooks and Screen Size
The first point on which we will be focusing on is the design, outlook and the screen size of both these smartphones, which includes the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 and the Sony Xperia Z. Samsung Galaxy Xcover has a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 480×800 pixels whereas on the other, upper hand of the stick is the Sony Xperia Z with a screen size of 5 inches and a HD resolution of 1080×1920 pixels which makes it provide immense gaming and web surfing experience to its user as compared to Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2.
As far as the design is concerned, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 looks much like the old Galaxy Mini, but with a good and optimistic screen size. The side buttons of this phone are three in number which include the camera, volume up/down and the locks screen buttons. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover has a plastic back and has three navigation buttons on the foot of the phone.
Now coming to the Sony Xperia Z, it looks just like those typical Sony devices i.e Xperia T and Arc S with curved edges and touch screen navigation buttons, which in fact give it an elegant look. The Xperia Z also has a beautiful, glossy glass back cover which again makes it look more artistic and elegant. Overall, the Sony Xperia Z is again on the upper hand of the stick when it comes to the elegancy of the smartphone.
Processor
Whenever you are buying a smartphone, processor is one of the main things on which you have to focus on; same is the case today as the second factor which we are going to discuss is the processor of both these smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 boasts a Dual core 1GHz processor where as on the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z attributes a 1.5 GHz qualcomm Quad-Core processor. Well, in fact the processors of both the devices are really good but you always have to go for the best one, therefore, Sony Xperia Z is again the better choice to buy, as it will give you a more efficient, faster and smoother user experience powered by its 1.5 GHz processor.
Camera
Now let’s come to the camera of both these devices. The Sony Xperia Z has a 13 MP camera which can take pictures of 4128×3096 resolution. Moreover, the camera of the Sony Xperia Z is also powered with auto focus, LED flash and can record HD videos.
On the other hand – on the lower arm of the stick is the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 which has a normal 5-MP camera which can take pictures of 2592х1944 resolution, record videos in 720p and is powered by Auto-Focus and LED flash. Furthermore, the secondary camera of the Sony Xperia also has the ability to record in HD and is 2.2 MP, where as the secondary camera of the Galaxy Xcover 2 is a simple VGA camera. This clearly shows that even the camera of the Sony Xperia Z is way better than of the Galaxy Xcover 2.
Other Minor Specs and Price
There are a few minor specs as well which must be noticed when comparing the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 and the Sony Xperia Z. Firstly, let’s take into consideration the Operating System of both the devices. The Sony Xperia Z will come with Jelly Bean 4.1.2 as a stock firmware and is planned to be upgradable to Android/Jelly Bean 4.2.x later on, where as the Galaxy Xcover is again one step behind the Xperia Z and will have Jelly Bean 4.1 as a stock firmware with no further planned upgrades.
The internal memory of the Galaxy Xcover 2 will be of 4GB with 1GB of RAM, whereas again, on the upper end of the stick will be the Xperia Z with 16 GB of Internal storage and 2 GB of RAM. We don’t have any news regarding the price of Galaxy Xcover 2 yet but just as a guess, it would be around $200-250 where as the Xperia Z is available for $300. Therefore, as far as the price is concerned, Galaxy Xcover 2 is a really optimistic option.
As footnote of this whole comparison between the Sony Xperia Z and the Galaxy Xcover 2, I would like to conclude to a solution that the Sony Xperia Z is way better then the Galaxy Xcover 2, however, in case you can’t afford to buy a device of price as much as $300 then the Galaxy Xcover 2 is not a bad choice either as it can give you a really good user experience in a really low price.
