Samsung ATIV Book 7 (NP740U3E-K01UB)
Samsung have designed a real winner in their premium ultrabook offering, the ATIV Book 7. Very chic, metal finish, solid construction, excellent performance, extremely long battery life and other features. The display is a 13.3-inch 1920 x 1080 HD touch screen with 10-digit touch capability, powered by a 1.8GHz Intel Core i5-337U dual coreprocessor with 4GB RAM and Intel HD Graphics 4000. All other features are comparable with the best in this category. However, the most outstanding thing about this ultrabook is its extra long battery life: 6+ hours! And for just over $1,000, the ATIV Book 7 should definitely figure near the – if not on – the top of your shopping list.
Toshiba Satellite U845t-S4165
Known for their technologically sophisticated products, Toshiba may have not come to class with this Satellite. Not that it’s bad – it’s just not as good as you’d expect, in places. Of course, it’s unmistakably Toshiba: impeccable looks and impressive overall performance. Featuring a 14 inch 1366 x 768 touchscreen (that’s not true HD but you won’t know the difference unless you look real hard), it runs on a dual-core 1.8GHz Intel Core i5-3337U processor coupled to a 4GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a 128GB SSD. This last might be a limitation, considering the space occupied by the large amount of preloaded software. Connectivity is typical of slim ultrabooks: limited, to say the least, but it does feature Intel’s Wi-Di technologly. The best part, however, of the U845t-S4165: over 6 and a quarter hours. While it may not really fire your imagination, for under $750, it’s really worth considering for your budget ultrabook.
