THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ELECTRIC POLE SAWS

Electric pole saws are the best for small backyards. It is a quality instrument which is reliable and a powerful tool for branches several inches thick. It outperforms cordless models and is good for your pockets if you are on a budget. Electric pole saws require an 110V outlet to plug in and can run reliably for hours. Plug in saws have more cutting power and can run for a longer amount of time.

The downsides, which are few, include the inconvenience of having to plug it into a power source. You have to always make sure there is an outlet nearby the work area. An extension cord can be used to increase the distance of the saw from the power source. However, for very large properties, these are not the most practical option.

HEIGHT

A machine which says it has a ten foot reach does not mean the pole provided is ten feet in length. The pole is actually a few feet shorter and the extra reach is that of your arm.

Most electric saws have a range of 12 to 15 feet.

USE

An 8 amp machine can take care of softwood branches several inches across. Even hardwood trees with 4-5 inch branches can be trimmed and pruned with it.

WEIGHT

Most electric pole saws weigh less than 10 pounds. These are lighter than the gas models but can still cause a strain in the back if used for a long period at a stretch.

MAINTENANCE

To keep the electric pole saw in proper working order and prolong its working life, a proper maintenance is very crucial. Even though maintenance manuals are provided with each saw, the basic pointers can be summed down to:

Before use

  • Check all the connections and fixtures for any loose screws, nuts or bolts.
  • Ensure that the trigger and the trigger lock are functioning smoothly.
  • Check the chain to make sure there are no breaks or other damages.

After use

  • A basic cleaning of the unit’s surface with a damp rag.
  • Cleaning of the protective cover which surrounds the blade.
  • Return the machine to its proper storage bag.
  • Check the oil level and refill whenever required.

SAFETY

Safety gear

Safety gear for protection is mandatory. It includes a pair of goggles or glasses with full coverage, shoes or boots which cover the entire feet and have a good grip and a pair of safety gloves. During pruning and trimming saw dust fly all around and your eyes, nose and mouth should be covered to keep them out of your system. Safety gloves provide a strong grip and prevent chaffing and injuries. Covered clothes and a hard hat create a protective layer from falling branches and debris.

Instrument

Inspect the electric saw each time before usage. If the chain has missing teeth or has excessive wear, replace it. If it does not have an automatic oiler, then chain should be properly oiled so that it does not break during use.
